SUMMARY:NOTICE: The June Monthly Meeting will be held via Zoom – online only and for members only.
DESCRIPTION:Greg Hunter\, Editorial Director of Graphic Universe\, will present “Writing Scripts for Graphic Novels”\nFor more than a decade\, graphic novels have steadily grown in popularity within the mainstream book market. The form is suitable for stories of all genres\, including mysteries and crime fiction\, but drafting a script can still trip up a first-time graphic novel creator. Not just longer picture books or illustrated versions of prose novels\, these works have traits all their own. This session will talk the logic of comics and how to transform ideas into visuals. \nAs Editorial Director of Graphic Universe\, Hunter has acquired graphic novels that have collected starred reviews and national awards. My Beijing: Four Stories of Everyday Wonder\, written by Nie Jun\, translated by Edward Gauvin\, and originally published in China\, garnered a 2019 Mildred L. Batchelder Honor\, an Eisner nomination\, and a starred review from Booklist. Stage Dreams\, a recently published title by acclaimed cartoonist Melanie Gillman\, received a starred review from School Library Journal. Hunter’s other accolades include starred reviews for The Invisible War: A World War I Tale on Two Scales\, written by Ailsa Wild\, Briony Barr\, Jeremy Barr\, and Gregory Crocetti and illustrated by Ben Hutchings; Sincerely\, Harriet by Sarah Winifred Searle; and The Epic Origin of Super Potato: Book 1 by Artur Laperla \nAuthor Spotlight: Lorrie Holmgren
