This is my third year as president. I accomplished my personal goal of reading most members first books. This year it’s Stalking Seconds.
We started the first meeting of the year on business, which also fell on old calender Russian Orthodox Christmas Eve, making it even more stressful for me personally. We welcomed a new VP, Timya Owen and Secretary, Kristin Lerstrom. Both jumped in with Timya reviving our Twitter account, and handling emails, and Kristin starting a quarterly e-newsletter. Michael Kelberer, has stayed on as Membership Director, Treasurer and Webmaster, and has been amazing increasing our membership. Since my first year, I’ve made it my mission to follow (literally), and promote local author launches and signings. All this was my motivation to create a yearly calendar, that I put on the FB group, and Michael has many national events on the website.
The committees have been reorganized as well. The executive board broke it down into seven categories, that includes a contact member, board member (can be same person), and a third where indicated. All are welcome to create happenings, submit your idea to the committee so we can get it on the calendar, and assist as needed. Myself and Barbara Deese coordinate events, and most recently organized our presence at the Bloomington Writers Festival and Book Fair on March 28th.
I appreciate all who have provided us with great ideas for guest speakers at our monthly meetings. Submit ideas to firstname.lastname@example.org. Finally, many thanks to Michael Frey of the Edina Art Center for providing us a permanent monthly meeting place.
